es ist soweit! Heute erscheint mit „MINUS THE MAGIC“ das siebte Album von Get Well Soon!
Wir schätzen uns ungeheuer glücklich, dass nach 20 Jahren Bandbestehen noch immer jemand diese Zeilen liest. Also danke dir! Ja, genau dir!
Zur Feier des Tages also ein paar Zeilen.
Übers Älterwerden redet man im Pop ja nicht so gerne. Allerdings kann man schwer ein 20-jähriges Jubiläum feiern und so tun, als sei man noch die blutjunge Hupfdole und Rampensau wie 2006. Also die Karten auf den Tisch!
So gewisse Themen kommen zu einem, ob man will oder nicht. Und so ungefähr in der Mitte des Lebens sind es eben diese Fragen: Wie bin ich hierhergekommen? Wo bin ich? Wie geht es weiter? Bin ich jetzt doch der Melancholiker, für den mich schon immer alle gehalten haben? Ich kann sie beruhigen: Nein! Je ne regrette rien! Na ja, sagen wir: fast nichts. Unter 10 %. Das ist doch ziemlich gut.
Und deshalb ist MINUS THE MAGIC bei all dieser Reflexion nicht wehmütig oder nostalgisch. Vielmehr ist es dankbar. Dankbar für die Musik, die mich diesen Weg einschlagen ließ. Und dankbar, dass dieser Weg so lange war und weiter geht. „Noise has been my first love“ heißt es in „The Pope Washed My Feet In Prison“ - ich habe diese wunderbaren, verzerrten Gitarren der 90er Jahre gehört und wusste: Das will ich auch! Klar, Get Well Soon hat dann alle möglichen Umwege genommen und wird das hoffentlich auch noch lange tun. Aber auf MINUS THE MAGIC sind die Gitarren wieder laut gedreht. Eine Verneigung an die Anfänge und deshalb passend zu so einem runden Geburtstag.
Diesmal ist das Album auch so eingespielt wie es klingt: Gemeinsam als Band. Das hat so viel Spaß gemacht, dass wir beinahe die Ironie und das Klischee vergessen hätten: Die Dad-Rock Platte pünktlich zum Salt-and-Pepper-Hairstyle - sofern noch was da ist.
Hoffentlich hört man all den Spaß und vielleicht hilft er euch ja auch über den ein oder anderen existenziellen Moment hinweg, wenn man wieder etwas zu lang aus dem Fenster sieht. Da kommen wir alle hin. Danke euch, dass ich euch mit Songs darüber behelligen darf.

Gleichzeitig zur Veröffentlichung des Albums haben wir noch eine Single ausgekoppelt und ein Video gemacht. Und zugegeben: Ein bisschen Nostalgie ist hier doch im Spiel. OK, sehr viel Nostalgie!
„The 4:3 Days“ beschreibt die exakte Situation, in der ich beschlossen habe, mir einen Ferienjob zu suchen, um das Geld für meine erste ordentliche Gitarre zu verdienen. Ziemlich sicher saß ich dabei auf dem Teppichboden eines Souterrain-Jugendzimmers mit Freunden, ziemlich sicher hatte einer davon ein Che-Guevara-Shirt, ziemlich sicher lief auf der Kompaktanlage eine CD von Nirvana oder Sonic Youth. Vielleicht geht es auch um das allgemeine Lebensgefühl in der großen Ära der Videotheken. Weint hier wirklich jemand den vergangenen Tagen voller Hautunreinheiten und Übernachtungsparties mit biergetränkten Schlafsäcken nach? Nicht wirklich. Aber - wie gesagt - es geht um die Frage: Wo beginnt der Weg dort hin, wo wir heute sind? Und da die Gitarre nach 20 Jahren Get Well Soon immer noch nicht am Nagel hängt, ist dieser Song die reine Euphorie.
Für das Video haben wir alle tief in den Archiven gewühlt, die Giftschränke geöffnet und einen „trip down memory lane“ montiert, der zumindest hier für ein paar feuchte Augen gesorgt hat. Wir hoffen, es kommt rüber, was wir für eine gute Zeit hatten, in den vergangenen 20 Jahren. Vielleicht kommen der/dem ein oder anderen ja ein paar Szenerien bekannt vor. Denn ohne euch, hätte das alles ja nie stattgefunden.
Also hier - viel Spaß!
Und schon eine Woche später geht’s los. Zurück auf die Straße, zurück auf die Bühne. Wir können es kaum erwarten und freuen uns natürlich auch sehr, dass schon fast alle Shows voll sind. Ein paar Restkarten gibt es hier und da noch. Also entschließt euch JETZT!

Die nächste und große Jubiläumstour lässt auch nicht mehr lange auf sich warten, wir werden in den kommenden Tagen die Dates verkünden. Also aufgepasst!
Im Oktober erscheint mit „Séance“ noch ein weiteres, das achte Album. Auch dazu gibt es sehr bald weitere Informationen und natürlich Musik daraus.
Am 28.5. erscheint die zweite Staffel von „Achtsam Morden“ auf Netflix und am selben Tag auch das Soundtrack-Album dazu von Konstantin Gropper und Ziggy Has Ardeur.

the time has come! Today marks the release of “MINUS THE MAGIC”, the seventh Get Well Soon album!
We feel unbelievably lucky that, after 20 years as a band, there are still people out there reading these lines. So thank you! Yes, you specifically!
And so, to celebrate the occasion, a few words.
People in pop music don’t like talking about getting older all that much. But it’s hard to celebrate a 20-year anniversary while pretending you’re still the same young live-wire and stage animal you were back in 2006. So let’s put the cards on the table!
Certain topics come for you whether you want them to or not. And somewhere around the middle of life, those questions tend to be these ones: How did I get here? Where am I? Where do I go from here? Am I actually the melancholic person everyone always thought I was? Let me reassure you: no! Je ne regrette rien! Well, let’s say: almost nothing. Under 10%. That’s actually pretty good.
And that’s why MINUS THE MAGIC, for all its reflection, isn’t wistful or nostalgic. It’s grateful instead. Grateful for the music that set me on this path. And grateful that the path has been such a long one — and that it’s still going. “Noise has been my first love,” goes a line in “The Pope Washed My Feet In Prison” — I heard those wonderful distorted guitars of the ’90s and immediately knew: I want that too! Sure, Get Well Soon has taken all kinds of detours since then, and hopefully will continue to do so for a long time. But on MINUS THE MAGIC, the guitars are turned up loud again. A nod to the beginnings, and therefore fitting for a round-number anniversary like this.
This time, the album was also recorded exactly the way it sounds: together, as a band. We had so much fun doing it that we almost forgot the irony and the cliché of it all: the dad-rock record arriving right on schedule with the salt-and-pepper hairstyle — assuming there’s still enough hair left.
Hopefully you can hear all that joy, and maybe it’ll even help you through the occasional existential moment too — those stretches where you find yourself staring out the window for a little too long again. We all get there eventually. Thank you for letting me bother you with songs about it.

At the same time as the album release, we’ve also put out another single and made a video for it. And admittedly: this one does involve a bit of nostalgia. OK, a lot of nostalgia.
“The 4:3 Days” describes the exact moment I decided to get a summer job so I could afford my first proper guitar. I’m pretty sure I was sitting on the carpet floor of some basement teenage bedroom with friends, pretty sure one of them was wearing a Che Guevara shirt, pretty sure a Nirvana or Sonic Youth CD was playing on the stereo. Maybe it’s also about the general feeling of life during the great age of video rental stores. Is someone here really longing for those old days full of acne, sleepovers, and beer-soaked sleeping bags? Not really. But — as I said — it’s about the question: where does the path begin that eventually leads to where we are today? And since the guitar still hasn’t been hung up after 20 years of Get Well Soon, this song is pure euphoria.
For the video, we all dug deep into the archives, opened the vaults, and put together a little “trip down memory lane” that definitely caused a few teary eyes around here. We hope it comes across what a good time we’ve had over these past 20 years. Maybe some of the scenes will feel familiar to one or another of you. Because without you, none of this would ever have happened.

And in October, another album will be released: “Séance”, our eighth record. There’ll be more information on that very soon — and of course new music as well.
