Liebe Freunde,
das bestimmt seltsamste Jahr unserer bisherigen Lebenszeit neigt sich dem Ende. Was wir nicht alles über uns selbst, „die Anderen“ und die Welt gelernt haben! Aber darüber zu schreiben spare ich mir lieber für das nächste Album auf.
Wir hatten mit Get Well Soon schon lange eine Live-Pause für das Jahr 2020 geplant. Es wäre also so oder so das erste konzertfreie Jahr im gut 13-jährigen Bestehen der Band gewesen. Und auch wenn ich das gerne auf übersinnliche Fähigkeiten zurückführen würde, es war einfach dummes und riesengroßes Glück. So versuche ich hier nicht in allzu trübe Stimmung zu verfallen. Immerhin geht es auch irgendwie um Weihnachten und das Ende dieses ungeliebten Jahres ist in Sicht. Es kann fast nur besser werden.
Unser Glück hatten bekanntlich viele befreundete Künstler nicht und mussten Touren ausfallen lassen oder zumindest verschieben. Weshalb ich mit einem Geschenktipp beginnen möchte: Schenkt doch mal wieder Platten zu Weihnachten oder Merchandise oder Konzerttickets oder -gutscheine. Natürlich nicht (nur) von Get Well Soon. Wir sitzen alle im selben Boot, wer weiß wie lange noch. Und kauft am besten direkt bei den Künstlern.
Ein bisschen was ist trotzdem passiert im Hause Get Well Soon. Zum Beispiel das hier:
„WIR KÖNNEN NICHT ANDERS“ (ab 4.12. auf Netflix zu sehen)
Über 10 Jahre nachdem ich für „Same Same But Different“ meinen ersten Kino-Soundtrack komponieren durfte, hatte ich die Freude wieder mit Detlev Buck zusammenzuarbeiten und die Musik für seinen neuen Film „Wir Können Nicht Anders“ zu schreiben. Hierfür habe ich mich mit der wunderbaren Alex Mayr zusammengetan und lag mit der Vermutung richtig, dass sie ein großes Talent für Filmmusik hat.
„Wir Können Nicht Anders“ knüpft lose an Bucks Film „Wir Können Auch Anders…“ (1993) an, zumindest in der Hinsicht, dass die Nachwirkungen der Wiedervereinigung einen wesentlichen Teil des Settings bilden. Am Tag vor Nikolaus lernt Edda (Alli Neumann) Sam (Kostja Ullmann) in einer Bar kennen und lädt ihn spontan ein, sie in ihr Heimatdorf nahe der polnischen Grenze zu begleiten, wo ihr Vater und Bürgermeister (Detlev Buck) seinen Geburtstag feiert. Sam sagt zu. Auf dem Hinweg, bei einem Abstecher in den Wald werden sie Zeuge eines Beinahe-Verbrechens und stolpern in eine gewaltsame Konstellation aus Eifersuchtsdrama und wirtschaftlichem Zusammenbruch hinein, die zu einer blutigen Verfolgungsjagd wird.
Eigentlich hätte „Wir Können Nicht Anders“ pünktlich zu Nikolaus in die Kinos kommen sollen, aber wie so Vieles ist bekanntlich auch das Kino ein trauriges Opfer dieser Pandemie. Im Sommer haben wir den Film für das Kino gemischt, wo ich ihn auf großer Leinwand erleben durfte. Wunderschöne Bilder und ein großer Klang, der volle Kinosäle verdient gehabt hätte. Leider wird das vorerst nichts.
Aber zu sehen wird er trotzdem sein und hoffentlich auch bei Netflix viele Zuschauer finden. Auch dort wird er gut aussehen und klingen.
Hier also der Filmtipp: Ein wirklich sehr unterhaltsamer Film, voller schwarzem Humor und großer persönlicher Dramen. Ein toller Cast bis zur kleinsten Rolle und eine sehr stimmungsvolle Kamera. Es ist sicher kein nostalgischer Film für Zartbesaitete, aber Weihnachtsstimmung hat er durchaus zu bieten, wenn auch nicht die übliche. Vielleicht auch deshalb der Weihnachtsfilm der Stunde. Und die Musik…

Es war zugegebenermaßen nicht ganz leicht, den richtigen Ton zu treffen, weil eine der ausgesprochenen Stärken des Films ist, dass er zwischen einigen Stühlen Platz nimmt. Es ist Eifersuchtsdrama, es ist Komödie, es ist Sozialstudie und es ist vorweihnachtliche Tristesse.
Detlev Buck hat uns und der Musik viel Raum gegeben und damit auch viel Verantwortung. Das ist natürlich wunderbar für Komponisten, wenn die Musik eine eigene Dimension oder Rolle spielen darf. Der Film nimmt seine Charaktere und ihre persönlichen Tragik ernst, aber aus ihrer bisweilen überlebensgroßen Dramatik bezieht er auch seinen Humor. Musikalisch sind wir dabei irgendwo zwischen alten Weihnachtsliedern, Morricone-Western-Mentalität und großer russischer (bzw. osteuropäischer) Melodramatik gelandet.
Da wir fanden, die Musik passt auch gut in diese vorweihnachtliche Zeit, kann man sie auch ganz ohne Bilder genießen. Ab sofort könnt ihr das Soundtrack Album hier hören:
Und mit „We Don’t Really Care“ ist auch ein neuer Song dabei.
GOODBYE 2020
Ansonsten läuft die Arbeit an Staffel 3 von „How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast)“ auf Hochtouren. Wieder gemeinsam mit meinem Freund Ziggy Has Ardeur. Auch darauf kann man sich 2021 freuen. Wie auf so Vieles.
Vor gut einem Jahr haben wir unser letztes Konzert beim tollen „Open Mind Festival“ in der Arge in Salzburg gespielt. Das Motto lautete „Bye Bye Everything?“. Damals wussten wir von all dem noch nichts.
Ich wiederhole mich: 2021 kann nur besser werden. Ich habe mir vorgenommen den Projektnamen „Get Well Soon“ ernst zu nehmen und habe mir ein neues Album vorgenommen. Mal sehen…

Dear Friends,
the probably strangest year of our lifetimes so far is coming to an end. Oh, what we have learned about ourselves, „the others“ and the world! But I’ll save that to write about for a new album.
We have been planning a hiatus in 2020 with Get Well Soon for a long time. It would have been the first year without a show in the about 13 years of existence either way. As much as I would like to trace that on psychic abilities, it’s just been dumb and huge luck. So I’ll try not to be too bleak here. At least it’s a little bit about Christmas and the end of this unlovable year. It can only get better.
As you know, not all of our friends and artists were that lucky and had to cancel or at least postpone their tours. So I’d like to start with a little tip for presents: This year maybe give records for christmas or merchandise or concert-tickets or -vouchers. Of course not (only) from Get Well Soon. We’re all in the same boat here, who knows for how long. And, if possible, buy from the artist directly.
A little bit has happened nonetheless in the house of Get Well Soon. For exmple:
„CHRISTMAS CROSSFIRE“ („WIR KÖNNEN NICHT ANDERS“), December 4th on Netflix
Over 10 years after I composed my first Movie-Soundtrack for the cinema called „Same Same But Different“, I was now lucky to team up again with director Detlev Buck in writing the music for his new film „Christmas Crossfire“ („Wir Können Nicht Anders“, „Un Très Mauvais Plan“). For this I collaborated with the wonderful Alex Mayr, who has a great talent for score work, as I correctly predicted.
This film is losely connected to an early one of the director called „Wir Können Auch Anders…“ (1993), at least by the fact that their dealing with the aftermath of the german reunion in their social setting. On the evening before Santa Clause day (December 6th) Edda (Alli Neumann) meets Sam (Kostja Ullmann) in a bar and spontaneously asks him to accompany her an a trip to her tiny hometown village near the polish border, where her father (Detlev Buck) is the mayor and will celebrate his birthday. Sam accepts. On the way there, they take a little detour into the woods, where witness an almost-crime and stumble into a constellation of jealousy-drama and economic decline which leads into a gory chase.
Originally the should have been released to cinemas this week, but like a lot of things the cinema is a sad victim of this pandemic. In summer, we mixed the film for the big Screen and I was able to see it in all its glory. Its beautiful pictures and sound would have deserved packed theaters, but hey.
It will be seen anyway and hope it will have a lot of viewers on Netflix. It will still look und sound good.
So here’s the movie tip: A truly entertaining film, filled with black humour and personal tragedies. A great cast down to the smallest parts and a very atmospheric cinematography. It surely isn’t a nostalgic movie for the fainthearted, but it does have a christmas-feel to it - just not the usual. Maybe that’s why it could be the Christmas-Movie of the hour. And the music…

WIR KÖNNEN NICHT ANDERS - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

To be honest, it wasn’t easy to hit the right tone here, because one of the strengths of this film is, that it has so many different aspects. It is a drama of jealousy, it is a comedy, it is a social study and it’s full of pre-christmas tristesse.
Detlev Buck gave the music a lot of room and therefore a lot of responsibility. Of course it’s great for a composer, if the music can become its own dimension and character in a movie. This one is taking the personal tragedies of its characters seriously but it also draws its humor from their sometimes larger than life melodramas. Musically we landed somewhere between old christmas carols, Morricone-Western-Mentality and Russian (well, Eastern-European) Drama.

Apart from that the work on the third season of „How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast)“ is going full speed. Again, together with my buddy Ziggy Has Ardeur. Another thing to look forward to in 2021.
I’m repeating myself: It can only get better. I’m planning to take the project-name „Get Well Soon“ seriously and will try to record a new album. We’ll see…
